After a successful performance of “The Cherry Orchard” at the World Theatre Education Alliance (WTEA) International Festival in Beijing, our students headed for the opening of the Guilin International Arts Festival.
This year, WTEA participants were invited to Guilin so that theatre schools from all over the world could show their works, share teaching experience and ideas for the development of theatre education. The organisers hope that through the new integration, the member schools of the World Theatre Education Alliance (WTEA) will get to know better China’s traditions and theatre culture of different countries.
On the opening day of the festival, the jury named the best actor and actress from each WTEA member school. The best from GITIS were Semyon Shestakov and Evgeniya Leonova.
In Guilin, the performance was shown at the open-air venue “Shan Shui Park”, after which a discussion of the production took place.
The directing faculty of GITIS is returning to Moscow, and the acting faculty is flying to China, which will show the production of “The House with a Mezzanine and other Chekhov Stories” at the One Belt, One Way festival in Shanghai. Directed by Professor Olga Yakushkina.
