For the first time, GITIS and Gnessin Russian Academy of Music have been included in the QS World University Rankings in the Performing Arts section, which includes music, ballet and theatre arts.
“For GITIS the QS Ranking is, first of all, international recognition of our Institute. Today, during ‘cancel culture,’ we expected that music and theater education in Russia could have been rejected or devalued as well. I am positively surprised, as are many of my acquaintances who said they did not know how to react to this unexpected and great news. It shows that our extensive work in GITIS and the work of our colleagues at the Gnesin Russian Academy of Music have been valuable to many. It is the work of many people, including our alumni, who always positively mention their education at GITIS or Gnesinka,” says GITIS’ Rector Grigory Zaslavsky.
The first place in the section of “Performing Arts” was taken by the Royal College of Music (Great Britain), the second — by the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts (Austria), and the third — by the Juilliard School (USA). GITIS became the only Russian theater university included in the rankings.
QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022 contains 51 disciplines, making it the largest ranking in the world. When compiling a ranking for each subject, analysts evaluate the academic reputation of the university, citations of scientific articles, and the Hirsch index of employees and assign each of the parameters their weight. Sources of data for the analysis are open databases and data provided by universities on request.
