The Russian Institute of Theatre Arts — GITIS — has given a presentation of the project “Future Theatre Laboratory”.
The aim of this project is to conduct research into the state of the modern theatre in Russia as well as possible ways of its development in the future.
According to GITIS head Grigory Zaslavsky, “it is important to make GITIS a leader in certain key scientific theatre studies. This is how an idea to set up a department on studying the future of theatre got developed”.
The Laboratory’s management said they are studying information about the number of theatres in Russia, their repertoire, and what a modern viewer is like.
In six months, the Laboratory will present the preliminary results of its work. It is also planned to hold an annual theatre festival and publish an end-of-the-year almanac on the work of the research centre.
