GITIS students and professors are concerned about the situation at the Hungarian University of Theatre and Cinema in Budapest.
This University (which dates back to 1865) had the status of a public educational institution, but recently, as a result of "institutional model change", it has been actually privatized, as the state has transferred the university to a private foundation, which will manage it. The professors and students of the University of Theater and Cinema have strongly opposed such changes that threaten the educational process and the very existence of the university, which has a well-deserved reputation and respect of the professional community all around the world. Due to this situation, famous theater directors Tamas Asher and Gabor Jambeki have already left the university.
GITIS students and professors express their solidarity with students and professors of the Hungarian University of Theatre and Cinema. In these difficult times university can not be passed into private hands without special conditions, as it often happens with transferring ancient mansions and other valuable monuments into private hands.
