Sergei Yashin graduated from Directing faculty of GITIS in 1974 (class lead by Goncharov). Prior to his education at GITIS Yashin studied in Yaroslavl’ Theater Institute. In 1969 he was working as an actor in Young Spectator’s Theatre in Novosibirsk.
From 1975 to 1985 he was the Director of Central Youth Theater. After that he took a role of director at Theater on Malaya Bronnaya. Later shifting to the position of head of Moscow Dramatic Theater named after Nicolay Gogol.
Since 1976 Sergei Yashin was a professor at GITIS, leading classes on acting to the class lead by Goncharov. In 2014 Yashin created his own class.
