The “Russian Theatre School” has successfully concluded in Cairo — a joint project by Rossotrudnichestvo and GITIS, held this year for the first time on the African continent.
Over four intensive days, leading GITIS teachers — senior teacher of the Sound Drama Department Ekaterina Petrova-Verbich, head of the Make-up design Department Evgeniya Malinkovskaya, and a musical theatre director Elizaveta Shakhova — introduced students of the Academy of Arts of Egypt to the traditions of Russian psychological theatre. The program included master classes in acting, directing for drama and musical theatre, and make-up artistry.
These days a meeting was held between Daria Drugachenko, GITIS Vice-Rector for Education, and Ghada Gobbara, President of the Academy of Arts of Egypt, with the participation of Arseny Matyushenko, acting Head of the Rossotrudnichestvo in Egypt. The parties agreed to establish broad, long-term cooperation between the two institutions.
“The Academy of Arts of Egypt and GITIS share a common goal — the development of education in culture and the arts, and the preservation of our countries’ cultural heritage. This project was also a highly valuable and successful exchange between two theatrical traditions. In a short time, students were able to expand their professional skills and gain a wealth of new knowledge and experience,” Daria Drugachenko emphasized.
Ghada Gobbara highlighted the significant impact of Russian theatre on the world stage:
“Our faculty members pay special attention to Russian culture and literature, as Russia is the homeland of Stanislavsky, Meyerhold, Nemirovich-Danchenko, and many other great figures of theatre.”
